Charlene McLaughlin

Ms. McLaughlin is an experienced senior legal counsel with core training and experience focused in the area of securities regulatory law and compliance, earned over the past 15 years. She has held roles with regulatory agencies and in the securities industry. Ms. McLaughlin was Senior Enforcement Counsel with the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) and Manager, Legal, Capital Markets Regulation of the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC), both positions requiring securities law, rule, and policy development, interpretation, and application. Her direct industry experience, includes developing and navigating approval of exempt market dealer (EMD) registration applications with three private corporations involved with the development and distribution of either real estate or private equity investments. Through her industry experiences, Ms. McLaughlin has also acted as General Counsel or sole in-house Legal Counsel, allowing for the breadth of her legal experience to extend to general corporate, corporate financial, commercial, and employment law. Ms. McLaughlin is an introspective collaborative leader with strong critical-thinking skills and a decisive well-articulated communication style.

Ms. McLaughlin earned her Law degree (LL.B) from the University of British Columbia and also holds a degree in Exercise Physiology (B.A.) from Chapman University (Calif). She is a member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia and the Law Society of Alberta. 

Ms. McLaughlin is a director with the Fresh Start Recovery Centre (Calgary) and is a volunteer coach for the Ecole Jules-Verne Senior Girls Volleyball Team.

Ms. McLaughlin lives in Vancouver. In her leisure time, she enjoys riding her bicycle around the seawall or setting out on the ocean with her paddleboard.
